Following are excerpts from an interview with Egyptian Shura Council member Abd Al-Rahman Al-Haridi, which aired on Al-Arabiya TV on June 23, 2013:
Presenter: In 2005, several parliament members, mostly from the Muslim Brotherhood, wore a sash in protest against the emergency laws, and no one beat them, quarreled with them, or expelled them. Today, Shura Council member Abd Al-Rahman Al-Haridi, of the Al-Tayyar Al-Misri Party, sported a sash that stated his demands, whatever they may be. This led to a fight in the Shura Council.

It doesn't bother me that you are wearing this sash [reading: "A New President Is Needed"].
Abd Al-Rahman Al-Haridi: This is very peaceful, and the message is clear. By the way, it is in keeping with the constitution. Today, they voted it unconstitutional, but they are violating the constitution that they themselves drafted.
Interviewer: Let us show the video to our viewers. This is what happened to Shura Council member Al-Haridi today.

Abd Al-Rahman, the council has decided to expel you from this session. If anyone did anything to you, write me a note about it.
Please [leave], Abd Al-Rahman.

Shura Council Speaker: Go outside and calm down.
Abd Al-Rahman, you must first leave, in keeping with the council resolution, and then you may return.
Cut back to TV studio
Presenter: That is what happened in the Shura Council today. Did you leave or not?
Abd Al-Rahman Al-Haridi: The only reason I left the session was that the truth behind their democracy façade was exposed.
