Gholam-Reza Aghazadeh, head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization: We have gathered here today in order to celebrate, with the infinite grace of God, the beginning of the industrial stage of the uranium enrichment project.

You productive youth have succeeded in manufacturing 270 tons of UF6 in the course of last year. It was not so long ago that this important substance was beyond the imagination of our nuclear scientists and researchers. We have recently achieved 3.5 to 5% uranium enrichment for nuclear plants, in the large facilities of Natanz. This is considered one of the most important and sensitive stages in nuclear fuel technology in the world today. Now, we begin mass production of centrifuges, and we begin the phase of the enrichment.

The development of the country's nuclear plants, as was authorized by the distinguished Islamic parliament, is on the agenda of the Atomic Energy Organization. Our plan is to [produce] 20,000 MW of nuclear electricity for our country in the next 20 years. In addition to the 1,000 MW project in the Bushehr plant, a 360 MW light-water plant is being planned and built, at a speed that is increasing daily. In coming months, in addition to the international tender for two 1,000 MW units, there is an international tender for the identification of a location for a 20,000 MW plant.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: We have seen that the enemies of the Iranian people are agitated by the progress and superiority of this people. In order to prevent the progress of this science and technology they have joined the fray. They even used the Security Council in an attempt to block the nuclear activities of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

But our great people, which for centuries was the world's pioneer in science, civilization, and culture, will not allow the aggressive superpowers to behave this way, and it will resolutely move toward new achievements.
