In an appearance on OTV (Lebanon) on October 14, 2024, former Lebanese military commander General Hisham Jaber urged Hizbullah to adopt a more forceful approach in its attacks against Israeli military targets and gas rigs. He suggested that instead of targeting Haifa and the Tel Aviv metropolitan areas with ballistic missiles, these should be directed at Israeli military installations rather than relying on regular mid-range missiles.
Jaber questioned why Hizbullah has only used a handful of precision missiles so far, despite Israeli claims of having 10,000. He asked, "What is Hizbullah waiting for?" Additionally, he noted that Lebanon possesses Russian anti-ship Yakhont missiles, which are believed to be capable of destroying Israeli oil and gas rigs. Jaber argued that targeting these gas rigs would not escalate into a widespread war, as it would avoid civilian casualties. Jaber is a Shiite and Hizbullah supporter, he previously served as the military governor of Beirut.
Hisham Jaber: "Hizbullah still has ballistic missiles. Stop firing at Haifa and the Tel Aviv metropolitan area. All the military targets that you attacked with regular mid-range missiles – use precision missiles against them. You only used a dozen of those so far and the Israelis say that there are 10,000. What is Hizbullah waiting for? For [these missiles] to be attacked on the ground? Or are you waiting for the war to end and it will be too late? This is what I am saying.
"In addition, [Hizbullah] has anti-ship missiles. We have Russian Yakhont missiles. The Israelis say that these missiles can destroy the oil and gas rigs. If I were in Hizbullah's place, I would fire a Yakhont missile tomorrow and destroy one of the [Israeli] rigs. Maybe this will wake them up. If not – hit a second rig. This will not ignite a widespread war, because there will be no civilian casualties and no lives will be lost."
