General (Ret.) Ashraf Rifi, Lebanon's former Minister of Justice and the former Director-General of the Internal Security Forces, said in an August 7, 2020 address that aired on Al-Arabiya Network (Saudi Arabia) that an investigation should be carried out on the recent Beirut port explosion, and that the investigator should be provided with protection. He explained that since Hizbullah is murderous and criminal terrorist organization that kills its rivals, it may kill the investigator if he finds it guilty. He added that Hizbullah is responsible for killing former Lebanese PM Rafik Al-Hariri and Lebanese military officials Wisam Al-Hassan and Wissam Eid.
Ashraf Rifi: "We should wait for the investigation [into the Beirut blast]. We demand an inquiry commission that will be able to protect the investigating officer and the judges. Lebanese society succumbs to the will of Hizbullah. Hizbullah might kill any judge who concludes Hizbullah is responsible. Hizbullah might kill any officer and his family. In 2005, the free and sovereign society in Lebanon demanded that the international community set up an international tribunal. Today, we are no less qualified than others and we do not have inferior technical means. The investigator - whether it is an officer of the security forces or a judge - must be provided with protection and so should his family. Hizbullah is a terrorist organization. It is a murderous, criminal organization that kills its rivals. I witnessed how the martyr Wissam al-Hassan and the martyr Wissam Eid were killed, and we all know full well that Hizbullah is responsible for the killing of Rafik Al-Hariri, Wisam Al-Hassan, and Wisam Eid."
