Hassan Jibril, spokesman of the Popular Committees of the Gaza Refugee Camps, called the American decision to cut aid to UNRWA "political extortion." Speaking at a press conference on January 18, Jibril said that if the international community refrains from taking action, "the region will be taken over by extremism. These generations will turn to the use of all means to obtain the daily bread stolen by Israel and America." His statements, made on January 18, were broadcast by the Al-Jazeera network.
Hassan Jibril: "The American decision to stop the aid [for UNRWA] is nothing but political extortion, which goes hand in hand with the decision about Jerusalem. These decisions are nothing but bargaining chips, and means to exert pressure and tighten the stranglehold on the Palestinians, in order to make them accept the so-called 'deal of the century,' the outlines of which are gradually becoming clearer. In addition, we hold the United States and President Donald Trump responsible for the circumstances in which the Palestinians, home and abroad, will find themselves, and which will have an impact on the security of the region. We would like to stress and make it clear that the American interests and those of the [Zionist] entity will be affected by this. The [Zionist] entity and American interests will be affected by the lack of security in the Middle East, as a result of these developments, which are of their own making.

"We, in the Popular Committees of the Gaza Refugee Camps, would like to stress that if the international community refrains from taking action in the face of the grave situation that our people and our cause are undergoing, this will mean that the region will be taken over by extremism. These generations will turn to the use of all means to obtain the daily bread stolen by Israel and America."
