Hamas cleric Iyad Abu Funun criticized Palestinian Authority officials who had said that they thwarted anti-Israeli terror attacks. Abu Funun said, on his Al-Aqsa TV talk show, that Israeli blood is not on a par with Palestinian blood, and that PA officials' statements to that effect run counter to the Quran. The Israelis who came from Ethiopia, Germany, Russia, or France are "highway robbers, a criminal gang," he exclaimed. "Soon we will have no choice but to say that we occupied them." The show aired on January 25.
Abu Funun: "If indeed some of the operations were thwarted... Some people boast that they thwarted hundreds of operations against the Zionists, and that they stopped the shedding of Zionist blood — as if Israeli blood is on a par with Palestinian blood... These are very serious, grave, and weighty statements. Such statements should not be uttered by members of our people and our nation.

"Is the blood of these (Israeli) foreigners on a par with the blood of our own people? Is their blood on a par with the blood of the martyrs? Is their blood on a par with the blood of our women and our daughters? These people don't even know their own origins. Where did they come from? Where did these foreigners come from? From Ethiopia? From Russia? From Germany? From France? They are highway robbers. They are criminal gangs. They came to our land and took it. So to say that their blood is like our blood? Like the blood of our sons? Of our wives? Of our children? And for us to defend their blood, like we defend our own people... These are serious things, things that mustn't be said. It is unacceptable for anyone to say such things. Brothers, this runs counter to the Quran. 'The strongest in enmity to the believers are the Jews and the polytheists.' This runs counter to the Quran.

Today, some of our people make light of the blood of our sons and our martyrs, and consider the filthy Zionist blood... I am saying that the Zionist blood is 100% filthy. It is filthy blood because it is murderous, criminal, aggressive blood, the blood of our occupiers, who attack our honor, who attack all that is holy, who attack our entire people, making them leave. How can I possibly accept a comparison between this blood, and the blood of our oppressed, wounded people? Guys, soon we will have no choice but to say that we occupied them, that we occupied this land, and that the Zionists living here are the true owners of the land. All that is left is that we say this and that would be the end of it."
