Hamas TV Host Iyad Abu Fanun, a lecturer at Gaza University, said that "our entire people loves Jihad and the resistance. It's intrinsic to its nature. Our very genes love these operations." He was speaking on Al-Aqsa TV on January 4, 2018.
Iyad Abu Fanun: "The Palestinian revolution has taken different forms over the years. The Palestinian revolution of today, which began in 1987 with the Intifada of stones, gradually developed. At first, for example, stones and popular means were used, then the stabbing operations began, and then there was a qualitative leap to bombing operations, which were masterminded by Yahya Ayyash..."
Host: "He was the first to use this method?"
Iyad Abu Fanun: "Exactly. He was the first to manufacture [explosive] belts. Let me tell you something. Yahya Ayyash is an icon not only for Hamas and for the 'Izz Al-Din Al-Qassam Brigades. I was sitting today with a group of university lecturers. One of them, who is not a member of any Islamic movement, said to me: 'Honestly, when [Ayyash] would launch an operation, everybody would applaud. Fatah members would fire celebration shots in the air even before the Hamas members.' This reflected their love for the operations of that heroic mujahid, and their esteem for the qualitative leap achieved by Ayyash with those operations. Naturally, our entire people loves Jihad and the resistance. It's intrinsic to its nature. Our very genes love these operations. If an operation were carried out right now anywhere in the [Zionist] entity, our entire people, regardless of political affiliation, would be handing out candy. Right?"
Host: "Of course."
Iyad Abu Fanun: "Our love for resistance operations is intrinsic to our nature..."
Host: "This is also true statistically. According to the most recent statistics, 90% of the Palestinians believe in resistance and not in any other option."
