Ghazi Hamad of the Hamas political bureau issued an English-language statement which was uploaded to the Palestine Infor Center account on X (formerly Twitter) on December 18, 2023 in which he condemned American and British "blatant support," for the Israeli military operation in Gaza. He welcomed the support of Canada, Australia, and New Zealand for a "sustainable ceasefire" in Gaza. Hamad said that Hamas considered this a step in the right direction towards global isolation of the "fascist" Israeli government and ending the occupation.
Ghazi Hamad: "Ladies and gentlemen, for 73 days the fascist Israeli occupation has been conducting its genocide war against our Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. All this and more is taking place before the eyes of the whole world, with the blatant support of the U.S., U.K., and some European countries, in light of the dysfunctional international community and United Nations institutions to stop this aggression due to the arrogance of the American administration and its brazen use of veto.
"Despite the United States' position, the Hamas movement is watching the growing calls by several Western governments to end the aggression on Gaza, in addition to the other calls, worldwide, demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the last of which was a statement by Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, backing a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza. We welcome these developments and consider them [a step] in the right direction toward isolation of the fascist Israeli government globally, and ending the longest ever occupation in our modern time."
