Nasrallah on Hizbullah's Financial Woes: Man Offered to Sell Family's Kidneys, Donate Proceeds to the Resistance

Hizbullah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah said in an April 10, 2019 address that aired on Al-Manar TV (Lebanon) that it is "normal" for people to offer their land, their gold, their homes, and their money to the resistance, and he gave the example of a man who offered to sell his house and his son's house in order to donate the money to Hizbullah. Nasrallah said that this was commonplace during the Second Lebanon War. He said, however, that he was surprised when a man recently contacted him saying that he does not have any property or money, but that the moment the resistance faces a financial crisis, he would be ready to sell his kidney, his son's kidney, and his wife's kidney and donate the money to the resistance.

Hassan Nasrallah: "One of our brothers called me and said: 'I own a house.' He has a lot of businesses, and God has given him success. 'My son also owns a house,' he said, adding: 'Sayyed [Nasrallah], the minute that you feel you need money for the resistance, give me the sign and I will sell these houses and give you the money. We will sacrifice our homes so that the resistance can continue.' This is a normal and expected reaction. This is what people did in the July [2006] War. But some things even I could not have anticipated. I can imagine people offering us their gold, or offering to sell their homes and land and give us their money. It's possible. But I did not see it coming when one person – and I'd better not mention his name – wrote to me saying: 'I don't have a house. I don't have property. My financial means are limited. But the moment I feel that the resistance is facing a real financial crisis, I am ready to sell my kidney, and have my son and wife each sell a kidney, and give the money to the resistance so that it can continue.'"
