Iranian state TV aired a report on March 11, 2025 about a joint naval drill between Iran, China, and Russia in the Northern Indian Ocean. According to the report aired on IRINN TV (Iran), Iran, Russia, and China compose a coalition that is responsible for securing the northern Indian Ocean.

Interviewer: "Midnight, the general area of the compound naval drill in the security belt. A threat against a commercial vessel in the northern Indian Ocean is detected. The Iranian command destroyer Alvand identifies the hostile decoy target in the middle of the night, and sends the order to the vessels of the army, the IRGC, and the Chinese and Russian navies to engage. All the destroyers confront the naval targets simultaneously, and destroy them successfully. This drill is held in order to deal with any threat against commercial ships in the Indian Ocean. However, the enemy tries to attack commercial ships in the daytime as well. Just like at midnight, the decoy targets are successfully destroyed.
