Iranian diplomat, former ambassador to Jordan Mojtaba Ferdosipour, who has recently become the head of the West Asia and North Africa Research Department of the Iranian foreign ministry, responded in a September 28, 2024 show on Sky News Arabia (UAE) to the assassination of Hizbullah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah. He said that Iran does not want a war with Israel "in the wide sense of the word," and he claimed that Israel seeks to drag Iran into a war with the United States. Ferdosipour added that Israel has been defeated in terms of its economy and its security.
Mojtaba Ferdosipour: "I believe that it will be an all-out war, but below the ceiling of a fierce war or a war everywhere. It will not be a wide war throughout the region. It is true that Iran does not want a war with Israel in the wide sense of the word. Israel seeks to drag Iran into the quagmire of an all-out war between Iran and the United States of America, but Iran will abide by the rules that exist on the ground.

"Let's not forget that the U.S. was expected to use its capabilities to compete with China and to fight in the South China Sea. Israel was supposed to become the economic and security engine of the Middle East and the defender of the interests of American and the West in the region. Has this happened? I am asking you. Is there anything meaningful left of the New Middle East or the Greater Middle East?

"Israel has been defeated in terms of its economy and its security. There is a decline of over 85% in the Israeli economy."
Interviewer: "Let me ask you: Did Netanyahu kill Nasrallah or did Nasrallah kill Netanyahu? Viewers who have just joined us might get lost here. Remind me of who killed whom, if you may..."
Ferdosipour: "This is not true. Some mujahideen for the sake of Allah reach martyrdom, and martyrdom is not the end of the road."
