Channel 1 (Iran) aired a report about a joint Iran-Russia naval drill titled "Caspian Maritime Rescue, Relief, and Security 2024" on July 22, 2024. According to the report, Iranian vessels and the Russian Navy participated in a drill that simulated fire extinguishing at sea, airborne search and rescue, and medical evacuation operations. Commander Mostafa Taj Aldini, Iran’s Deputy Navy Commander for Operations, said: "it is imperative that we further increase our cooperation in the field of maritime security."
Narrator: "The first joint naval exercise of Caspian Maritime Rescue and Relief, with the participation of Iranian naval vessels and the Russian Navy, was concluded in the Anzali Port. Airborne units of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Navy participated in the drill, which included the Peykan, Darafsh, and Separ missile boats, and two AB-212 helicopters, as well as the IRGC’s Navy Martyr Baseer, and the Russians’ SB45 vessel. The participating units exercised fire extinguishing at sea, airborne search and rescue, and medical evacuation operations of [soldiers] wounded by shooting at targets in air and sea."
Mostafa Taj Aldini: "Due to the [Caspian] Sea’s geopolitical and geo-economic vital importance, and the north-south corridor and transit of supplies, [the Caspian Sea] can play a continental role. It is imperative that we further increase our cooperation in the field of maritime security."
