Iranian political analyst Emad Abshenas, the Editor-in-Chief of Iran Diplomatic, said in a March 13, 2022 interview on Al-Mamlaka TV (Jordan) that the March 13 IRGC missile attack against targets in Erbil, Iraq were a warning to the U.S. and to Arabs who collaborate with Israel. He explained that the attack was a message that if a nuclear deal is not reached in Vienna, then Iran is prepared for a confrontation in the region. Abshenas also said that Iran will not tolerate Israeli presence in any country in the region.
Emad Abshenas: "According to my information, instead of making a proposal to the Iranians at the Vienna negotiations, the Americans made threats against them. Perhaps [by the Erbil missile attack], the Iranians wanted to deliver a message: We are ready for confrontation. If you are looking for a confrontation — we are ready.
"Either a peace [agreement] is reached in Vienna, or there will be a confrontation throughout the region.
"In my view, this is also a message to the other countries in the region — countries that collaborate with the Zionist entity, and want to provide intelligence or military bases on their soil for this Zionist entity — that Iran will not tolerate the presence of the Zionist entity in any country in this region.'
"Even if Iran's relations with that country are [as good as] its relations with Iraq... Iran considers Iraq to be among the countries with which it has the best relations. Nevertheless, in the case of an Israeli security threat to Iran, Iran will ignore its relations with any country."
