Following are excerpts from a public address delivered by Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami, a member of the Iranian Assembly of Experts, which aired on Channel 1, Iranian TV on November 14, 2008:
Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami: Bush's 47-year-old successor must know that if he follows Bush's misguided path, he will meet the same fate as him.

Bush's successor arrived on the scene, with the slogan of change. The question is: Where does the desire for change come from, and what brought about this change? The truth is that global conditions have imposed this change on the American administration.
[...]
But what brought about this change? This is important. Let there be no doubt – what brought about the change in global conditions is your great Islamic revolution.

From the day our great Imam [Khomeini] declared that America is the great Satan, and that it will not dare to do anything, America has begun to sink to the lowest depths.
[...]
Since that day, America has begun its descent down a slippery slope, and we expect more to come.

It would be naïive to think that there will be any change in American policy. Other people run the show. For almost 60 years – since the days of Eisenhower – American foreign policy has not changed one bit. It's only the game that has changed. Sometimes they think they can control things by using the slogan of change, and other times by using the slogan of the war on terror. So it wouldn't be right to pin one's hopes on them.

The American politicians should know that as long as they persist in their arrogance, this [Iranian] people will not change. The slogans of this people will remain the same. Our people has not changed one bit. Its slogan of hatred toward America continues to resound: Death to America
Crowd: Death to America
Death to America
Death to America
