Iranian Political Commentator Dr. Sheikh 'Attar Discusses US Involvement in Iraq and Blames CIA for Murdering Nick Berg

Dr. Ali-Reza Sheikh 'Attar, an Iranian political commentator, appeared on Jaam-E-Jam 2, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting's channel directed at the US. Dr. Sheikh 'Attar discussed the situation in Iraq and blamed the CIA for murdering American citizen, Nick Berg, in order to overshadow the Abu Ghureib prison scandal. Following is a verbatim translation of Dr. Sheikh 'Attar's comments:

Dr. Sheikh 'Attar: America knows that if (Iraqi) Shiites get their rights in accordance with their relative size and in light of their ancient bond with their sources of emulation, Iran and the Shiite school of thought, they will not act according to the will of the US. Thus, (they use) a host of Sunni groups, who are supposedly extremists and anti-American. Al-Qa'ida… No one can accept that Al-Qa'ida commits acts that are just. Decapitating an American hostage at the same time as the abuse was exposed shows what kind of organization it is. Just as America became involved in a crisis, the decapitation of the American hostage let them off the hook.

Host: The truth is that when I first saw the pictures on the Internet, I thought that it does not matter how much this serves the American interest, they would not agree to sacrifice their own citizen. But…

Dr. Sheikh 'Attar: There has been a precedent.

Host: That is what I wanted to say.

Dr. Sheikh 'Attar: A chance observation of The Bay of Pigs and Cuba affair (shows that) a senior CIA official told (CIA director) Allen Dulles, "We can sacrifice seven or eight Americans there." That was supposed to serve as pretext for attack, but Kennedy opposed it. This is not unprecedented. Absolutely, that is their method. Therefore, what you pointed out is an example of creating crises. America, with all the power it claims, and indeed does have... Can we ignore that despite its military and economic power it cannot get its hands on the people of Al-Qa'ida around the world? Even though it transferred many military forces to Afghanistan and searched from cave to cave in Tora Bora and bombarded it, could it not get its hands on the people of Al-Qa'ida? Only recently, in an operation in which the Pakistanis and Americans participated, they found nothing. This is unconceivable. In Iraq, for instance in Falluja, the US cannot stop them? That is why I think that America likes these crises.
