Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said in a November 14, 2019 address that aired on IRINN TV (Iran) that it is a strategic mistake for any Muslim country to view America or Israel as its friend and that it is unfortunate that some Muslim countries cooperate with Israel, particularly against the resistance movements in the region. He said that Iran and its people are at the forefront of the struggle against America and Israel. Adding that Iran is a friend to the people of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, Bahrain, Palestine, and any freedom-seeking struggle groups, Rouhani said: “Today is not the time for Shia-phobia, Sunni-phobia, Iran-phobia, or any-country-phobia… Our phobia today should be about the arrogance and Zionism.”
Following are excerpts:
President Hassan Rouhani: We must clear our minds of any doubt that America is our enemy. This does not mean that we would like to start a military campaign against America. No. Steadfastness and confronting the enemy have different circumstances at different stages. Sometimes they require words, sometimes screams, sometimes war, and sometimes resistance. However, to see the enemy as a friend would be a strategic mistake. It is a strategic mistake in the Islamic world when some see Israel as their friend. It is very unfortunate that some Islamic countries that are supposed to be steadfast against their enemies for the benefit of the world of Islam and the benefit of their own peoples, have extended a hand in friendship to Israel. They are even using Israel’s intelligence capabilities against the Muslim peoples and the resistance movements.

We must have no doubt that the Islamic Republic and the Iranian people are at the forefront of the struggle against the arrogance and the Zionist regime. This does not mean that the people of Palestine are not at the forefront. This does not mean that the peoples of Syria, Iraq, and Yemen are not at the forefront. But the regime that has been paying a steep price for 41 years for its stance and its enmity towards America and Zionism is that of Islamic Iran.

Israel is nobody’s friend. America is nobody’s friend. But we are the friends of the people of Saudi Arabia. We are the friends of the people of Kuwait. We are the friends of the people of the UAE. We are the friends of the people of Bahrain. We are the friends of the people of the region’s countries. We love the Palestinian people. We love the freedom-seeking struggle groups.
