The following is Iranian TV commentary on Saddam Hussein's use of chemical weapons against civilians. Channel 1 of the Iranian TV aired this commentary on March 15, 2005:
Even though use of chemical weapons in wartime is a blatant violation of international conventions, Saddam used this deadly weapon extensively against Iranian and even Iraqi citizens.
The superpowers did not prevent international organizations from taking action against Saddam, and they even became the main suppliers of unconventional and chemical weapons to Saddam's regime in order to pressure Iran.
Documents from the U.S trade department, the admissions of many former American and Western senior officials, and research conducted in this field indicate that more than 150 Western companies, including 30 American ones, were involved in Saddam's equipping himself with chemical and biological weapons.
Even during the war imposed by Iraq on Iran and following the visit of U.S special presidential envoy to Iraq Donald Rumsfeld, the American Bechtel company turned the Iraqi PC2 Petrochemical complex into a site for manufacturing nerve agents and mustard gas.
Thus, Sadd am's regime is not the only guilty party in the use of chemical weapons against Iranian citizens and people of Halabja, Iraq.
In addition, the superpowers, such as America and some Western countries, who supported and equipped the Ba'ath regime's army, are responsible for this.
Thus, they must be held accountable for their barbaric crimes in the right tribunal.
