Al-Jazeera Network (Qatar) posted on October 2, 2024 a satirical skit mocking Israel's response to the October 7 Hamas attack, titled "the Orange Dome." The skit is a faux marketing video for the "very expensive and ineffective" Orange Dome rocket defense system. In the video, Hamas militants infiltrate the military base of an 'Israeli soldier' trying to pitch the defense system, while he is being kidnapped by the militants. The actors in the skit speak Arabic with an Egyptian accent, and the video has been circulating online as early as March 2024.
Female soldier: "There is a strange signal. Someone is moving."
Commander: "Did you order a [food delivery?"
Female soldier: "No. We have lost all communications with our forces on the ground."
Commander: "How come? This is impossible. Where is the intelligence agency?"
Female soldier: "Even they cannot make contact."
Commander: "I want to know what's going on. Is there a solution for this?"
Male soldier: "I have the solution."
Commander: "The Orange Dome?"
Female soldier: "The Orange Dome?"
Female soldier 2: "The Orange Dome?"
Male soldier: "The Orange Dome is the most modern defense system in the 21st century against the operations of the resistance. It is equipped with missiles that intercept the enemy rockets. The price of an interceptor missile is low and affordable. The price starts at $50,000 per missile. The Orange Dome system can detect any security breach of your border, within 3 seconds to 3 hours. There is something with the range...
"In line with [the rule] that Allah asks no one to do something he cannot, the system only intercepts rockets in the air. This allows for cars and motorcycles to enter the installation, as you can see.. The Orange Dome system has a product warranty, as for the return and exchange policy...
