Kuwaiti Researcher Sultan Al-Asqah spoke about the Palestinian reaction to the normalization between Gulf states and Israel on Diwan Al-Mullah Internet TV (Kuwait), on September 19, 2020. He said that the Gulf states had accepted Palestinians as citizens and provided them with higher wages than they could have found elsewhere. Al-Asqah elaborated that the countries who had most supported the Palestinian cause were Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Bahrain, and they had sacrificed martyrs for its sake. He said that the Palestinian Authority had become angry with the Gulf states for seeking normalization with Israel and it started insulting the Gulf states, saying that Palestinians were the ones who had educated the people in the Gulf (for more information see MEMRI TV clip no. 8264), while the PA itself maintains ties with Israel. Al-Asqah said that the Palestinian Authority stands by Iran and Turkey, which present a threat to the Arab world.
Sultan Al-Asqah: "After 1987, the Gulf states were the only ones that supported Palestine. All the [other] Arab countries washed their hands of it. The Palestinian Authority benefits from the current state of affairs. [The PA] got very angry, then it began lying, and then turned to insulting us. [They said:] 'We educated you. We do not have illiteracy, while you have... You came to work here for wages you will never get elsewhere.
"Moreover, when the Gulf states accepted the Palestinians, they did not accept them as refugees, but as citizens. In Kuwait, if you remember, before the [Iraqi] invasion, they were [employed] in our schools. The Palestinians were treated almost the same as Kuwaitis in appointments to jobs – in the media and in the field of education. It was well known that the Palestinians are treated the same as the Kuwaitis. Sometimes, Kuwaitis were even held back so that Palestinians could advance. They have become a very significant bloc here in Kuwait. They are also present in Saudi Arabia and in the UAE. What have our countries given them? The countries that supported them the most were Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Bahrain. They even sacrificed martyrs for their sake. They have forgotten all of this and concentrated on one thing [normalization] that they themselves have adopted. The Palestinian Authority's behavior towards us has been disgraceful. It stands by Iran sometimes and by Turkey.
