Texas imam Yasir Qadhi conducted an interview with Kuwaiti Islamic scholar and Muslim Brotherhood leader Tareq Al-Suwaidan, which was posted on the YouTube channel of the East Plano Islamic Center on October 20, 2022. In the interview, Al-Suwaidan spoke warmly about Palestinian jihadi leader Abdallah Azzam, saying he was a "personal friend and a dear teacher." He then praised recently deceased Muslim Brotherhood spiritual leader Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradhawi and particularly his book on the fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) of jihad. Al-Suwaidan stated that the biggest challenge facing the Arab world is Zionism, and added that the Zionists have "been able to corrupt our governments, making them accept their presence in our lands."
Tareq Al-Suwaidan currently resides in Turkey. He spent several years as an Islamic leader in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was an unindicted co-conspirator in the case against Hamas terrorism funding by the Holy Land Foundation, and has been banned from entering several countries, including the United States and Belgium, for antisemitism and supporting terrorism. "All of these challenges [we are facing in the Arab world] are small, [when compared] to our challenge in facing Zionism and the occupation of Palestine. This is in the heart of the Arab world and Muslim world and they have been able to corrupt our governments, making them accept their presence in our lands. Huge amounts of time, money, energy, and several wars have been spent facing them. All of this has been wasted. It could have been directed towards Islamic civilization."
