Lebanese Druze leader Walid Jumblatt said in a May 16, 2024 interview with BBC Arabic (UK) that October 7 was a "great moment in the history of the Arab-Israeli conflict." He added that there is no struggle for liberation without victims. When asked by the interviewer if Hizbullah is "getting Lebanon into trouble," Jumblatt responded that Hizbullah is defending Lebanon against its historic enemy that has attacked south Lebanon time and again.
Walid Jumblatt: "For me, [October 7] was a great moment in the history of the Arab-Israeli conflict. The land that [Hamas] attacked is the land of Palestine. In any struggle for liberation, there are victims. In any struggle. This struggle is costly, but this is the only way. There is no other way for liberation from this colonialist enterprise, on the land of Palestine in its entirety, with no exception."
Interviewer: "Has Hizbullah got Lebanon into trouble?"
Jumblatt: "Hizbullah is defending Lebanon."
Interviewer: "But there is an open front..."
Jumblatt: "Hizbullah is defending Lebanon. We keep forgetting that Lebanon has a historic enemy, which attacked south Lebanon time and again."
