Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, a member of the Yemeni-Houthi Ansar Allah Political Bureau said on a January 24, 2024 show on Al-Araby TV (Qatar) on January 24, 2024 that his movement does not support the Russian military intervention in Ukraine. He said that his movement is a "moral movement," therefore despite the Houthi’s good relations with Russia, the Ukrainian government’s support of the "aggression" against Yemen in 2015, the Ukrainian government being a "coup" government, and its support of the aggression against Gaza, the Houthis distinguish between the Ukrainian people and its government. Al-Bukhaiti continued to say that it is the United States that is responsible for the war in Ukraine, because it has been seeking to expand NATO.
Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti: "Despite our good relations with Russia, and even though the Ukrainian government supported the aggression against Yemen in 2015, and although it is a coup government, which rose to power following the 2014 coup in Ukraine, and it has supported the aggression against Gaza – despite all that we do not support the [Russian] military operations in Ukraine. We draw a distinction between the position of the Ukrainian government, and the Ukrainians, who were harmed by this war.
"In any case, responsibility for that war lies with the Americans, who are striving to expand NATO. They are responsible for many wars the world..."
Interviewer: "Thank you very much."
Al-Bukhaiti: "So if we are not acting according to a moral principle, we would have supported the Russian military intervention in Ukraine. Therefore we say to everybody that we are a moral movement and that we place our trust in Allah and the Yemeni people."
