Nasser Al-Shammari, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Iraqi Hizbullah Al-Nujaba Movement, said in a December 30, 2019 interview on Mayadeen TV (Lebanon) in which he responded to recent U.S. airstrikes against Iran-backed militias in Iraq that Iraqi resistance forces can defeat American forces in the region several times over. He said that the U.S. must be expelled from Iraq and that the U.S. would be wrong to think that its desert bases are too remote to be targeted by the resistance. Al-Shammari also said that Iraq and the mujahideen have a right to defend themselves and that a conflict against the U.S. and Israel would end in the expulsion of the U.S. from the region and the collapse and destruction of Israel. In a same-day interview on Al-Rassed TV (Iraq), Al-Shammari said that Iraqis have the right to target the Americans wherever they may be found, that America only respects the language of the powerful, and that America will only respect the will and position of the Iraqi people if they respond powerfully to any American action. He also said that any American interests in Iraq can be targeted by the resistance.

Nasser Al-Shammari: The united States shows up and arrogantly claims responsibility, and it declares that it will do it again. We say: “Welcome back!” We did not fear America when it was in Iraq with all its capabilities. We fought it for more than eight years. We caused thousands of American casualties and destroyed all their military capabilities. America was defeated, and it will be defeated again and again, ten times over. Iraq is not a land suitable for the United States. They know this. The U.S. occupied several countries in the world for decades. In some countries, it remained for 50 or 60 years, but when facing the Iraqi resistance, it did not last more than eight years.

They wrong if they think that we cannot [target] their bases because they are in remote locations in the desert. The resistance today is not the same as it was in the beginning in 2003.

The American planes that bombed the Iraqi mujahideen fighters took off from Jordan – the same Jordan to which Iraq has been giving free oil from 20 or 30 years.

There is no solution but to expel these [American] forces. If this does not happen, we Iraqis, as well as the mujahideen, will have the right to defend ourselves and our lands.

Israel can rejoice, but it should wait to see how things turn out. The inevitable conclusion of any comprehensive battle or open conflict against American and Israel would be their removal from the region. America would be completely expelled from the region, and this would inevitably result in the collapse and destruction of Israel.

If the Americans do not recognize the existence of a state in Iraq and the existence of legal and constitutional institutions in the country, why do they expect us to recognize these institutions? We, too have the right to oppose the Americans and to target them wherever they may be found.

Even the previous air raids, for which the Zionist entity claimed responsibility, were not Israeli air raids. They were American air raids.

U.S. interests today are not only military forces. Today, American almost completely controls Iraq’s economy. The electric companies are American, the gas companies are American, the oil companies are American… All these interests can be targeted by the weapons of the resistance.

Every day, their President says that the U.S. made a mistake in Afghanistan, a mistake in Iraq, a mistake here, a mistake there… [He said] “We made a mistake by supporting Al-Qaeda, and by supporting ISIS…” They make mistakes on a daily basis. This was one of America’s deadly mistakes in Iraq, and it will lead to the annihilation of American influence in Iraq. Rest assured, the United States of America has made a mistake today.

Believe me, America only respects the language of the powerful.

Any reaction that does not match the initial action will not be respected by America. It would not consider this to be a [proper] response. The reaction must be more powerful than the initial action. It must surpass the level of the criminal American attack. Then, and only then, will America respect the Iraqi will and positions.
