Orlando, Florida Lecture By Sheikh Abu Usama At-Thahabi: May Allah’s Curse Be Upon Men Who Resemble Women; Islamic Punishment Doesn’t Necessarily Have To Be Stoning – ‘Chopping’ Is More Humane Than Lethal Injections Or Electrocution

Sheikh Abu Usama At-Thahabi asked Allah to curse men who act and dress like women, in a June 30, 2024 lecture at Masjid As-Sunnah in Orlando, FL. He also said that the corporal punishment dictated by Islam is still applicable today wherever possible in the Islamic world, on the condition that the punishments be carried out in a humane and "quick, precise, and clean" fashion like "chopping," which is better than execution via lethal injection or electrocution.

Abu Usama At-Thahabi is a U.S.-born imam who used to serve as the imam of the Green Lane Masjid in Birmingham, England. He has recently returned to the United States. For a similar sermon by Sheikh At-Thahabi from 2019, see MEMRI TV Clip No. 7521.

Abu Usama At-Thahabi: "There are a number of prohibitions of the Muslims imitating the women and the women imitating the men. May Allah's curse be upon the men who resemble the women.

[...]

"May Allah curse those men who in different aspects of their existence – their creation, their clothes, how they behave... May [Allah] curse them.

[...]

"All of the hudud [Islamic punishments] today are operable, by someone who has the ability to do that in the Muslim world. That’s number one. Doing it exactly how the Prophet did it is not something that is obligatory. So some people can be punished by chopping, you know... Corporal punishment. But the thing has to be done in a way where you spare him suffering. It can’t be inhumane. Like electrocution – it’s inhumane. Like those shots that they give – inhumane. They [the victim] go through a lot of pain and suffering, as people who witnessed it say. So it has to be something that is quick, precise, and clean. It doesn’t necessarily have to be by stoning as such."
