In his speech at the Arab League Summit in Sharm Al-Sheikh on March 27, 2015, PA President Mahmoud Abbas expressed support for the Saudi-led operation against the Houthis in Yemen and said: "Just like in the case of Yemen... there are other countries that suffer from division, strife, and so on. We are suffering from division. We were the first to suffer from it."
Following are excerpts from the speech, which aired on Egypt's Channel 1.
Mahmoud Abbas: First, I would like to express full support for the decision taken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Gulf Cooperation Council, and Arab countries to participate in the operations for the preservation of the unity of Yemen, and in support of the legitimate [regime] there. At the same time, we stress the importance of accepting the call for dialogue issued by the GCC, and adhering to dialogue as the best means to achieve security and stability for our beloved Yemen, and to preserve its territorial integrity. Your Royal Highness, King Salman bin Abd Al-Aziz – Allah is with you, and so are we. Our brother, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi – Allah is with you, and so are we.

Just like in the case of Yemen, where there is accepted and favorable Arab intervention, there are other issues and other countries that suffer from division, strife, and so on. We are suffering from division. We were the first to suffer from it. We hope that there will be a united Arab position and view. We are committed to everything that comes out of this summit.
