During an interview posted by elnashra.com on December 22, 2018, Russian Ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Zasypkin said that recent wars and economic sanctions have had a negative impact on Russia. He said that a different way of doing things must be found, because it is intolerable that the U.S. can thwart commercial transactions that it isn't part of. He said that Russia's strategic goal is to use natural gas in order to end the global hegemony of the U.S. dollar.
Alexander Zasypkin: It has been obvious for years that the world’s financial system is unfair. However, the recent economic wars and sanctions have had an impact on us. Simply put, commercial transactions are under American supervision, so there is a constant danger that [a transaction] might be thwarted by a party that is not actually participating in the transaction. We cannot tolerate this situation, so we must find alternatives. This is beginning to happen, but we must continue down this path until we create a new system.
Reporter: So you use natural gas to try to end the global hegemony of the U.S. dollar…
Alexander Zasypkin: That is our strategic goal, but there is always a discrepancy between the strategic goal and the situation today.
