In a March 23, 2015 interview, senior Houthi official Muhammad Al-Bakhiti said: "If Saudi Arabia intervenes militarily, this will lead to the end of the rule of the Saud clan in the Land of the Two Holy Mosques." The interview aired on Mayadeen TV.
Following are excerpts:
Muhammad Al-Bakhiti: I advise the Gulf states to refrain from becoming in any armed conflict in Yemen, because they will be the biggest losers. If Saudi Arabia intervenes militarily, this will lead to the end of the rule of the Saud clan in the Land of the Two Holy Mosques, because, as is known to all, there is growing anger among the Saudi people. Any defeat suffered by the Saudi army, like it suffered in the sixth war [against the Houthis] in 2010, would spell the beginning of the collapse of the Saudi regime.
Moreover, Yemen has a widespread [ethnic] presence in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states. More than 60 percent of the Saudi population are of Yemen origin and belong to Yemeni tribes. They would not be happy with such intervention, especially since it serves the American enterprise in the region.
