On February 3, 2020, in response to reports about a meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Sudanese leader Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Burhan, Sudanese Islamic Scholar Abd Al-Hayy Yousuf said in an interview on Dorar TV (Sudan), that if indeed the meeting took place, then Burhan's actions will have amounted to "treason against Allah and His Messenger." Abd Al-Hayy Yousuf goes on to point out that Burhan came to power through a coup, and that he does not have the right to speak on behalf of the Sudanese people.
Abd Al-Hayy Yousuf: "If it turns out to be true that Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Burhan has met with the Zionist Benjamin Netanyahu and agreed with him on normalization, this constitutes treason against Allah and His Messenger. This was done without the knowledge or acceptance of the [Sudanese] people. Burhan and his subordinates are only an interim government and they came to power through a military coup – the whole world attests to that. They do not have the right to attribute such [lies] to the entire people, and to take such measures. America continues to humiliate us every day. So far, we have got nothing from America despite all these concessions."
