A December 29, 2024 report on the TRT Network (Turkey) highlighted the military operations of the new Syrian regime and its efforts to crack down on the remnants of Bashar Al-Assad’s former leadership. According to TRT Arabic correspondent Rama Akili, the Directorate of Military Operations in Syria is focused on rooting out the remnants of the ousted regime and continues operations targeting its senior figures. Akili reported that the Syrian General Security Directorate has announced the capture of leaders from the former regime's militias. Additionally, Akili noted that the Khalid Ibn Walid elite battalions of the Directorate of Military Operations held a military parade in Damascus. A Syrian citizen quoted in the report remarked that the military presence now sends a message of security to the people, in contrast to the fear instilled by the Al-Assad regime’s forces.

Rama Akili: "'Just as we have been lenient, today we are being tough on the criminals whose hands were soiled with the blood of civilians,' says the Directorate of Military Operations in Syria, as it continues its operations in the various regions, targeting senior individuals affiliated with the deposed regime. The Syrian General Security Directorate has announced that it captured several militant leaders of the former regime's scattered loyalists, in the districts of Jableh, and the countryside of Tartus, Hama, and Aleppo. The security forces in Latakia said that they managed to arrest Hayyan Mia, the leader of the shabiha militias in the Jableh district.

"In addition, the General Security Directorate in Aleppo arrested Fakhri Darwish, the office director of the leader of the Al-Quds Brigade militia, one of the largest militias that supported the former Assad regime, according to local sources. Riyad Hassan, the head of political security in Damascus in the regime of the ousted President Bashar Al-Assad was arrested by the Directorate of Military Operations. Simultaneously with the operations conducted by the Syrian Ministry of Interior in numerous cities and governorates, the Khalid Ibn Al-Walid battalions that belong to the elite forces brigade of the Directorate of Military Operations, conducted a military parade in the Abbasid Square in Damascus."

Soldier: "We are here to provide security for the country, and there will be no problems at all, Allah willing. People who say that there is sectarianism and so on... There is nothing like that in this country. Alhamdulillah, there is stability in the country. The people here are with us, with the army. This shows you that the people are with us."

Akili: "According to the organizers of the military parade, it is meant to convey a message to the Syrian people – that the forces of the Directorate of Military Operations are a part of Syria's social fabric, and they will not hesitate to provide security and stability in all Syrian cities and governorates."

Citizen: "The soldiers are giving us a feeling of security. Beforehand, when we used to see soldiers, we were scared but now their presence means security."

Akili: "With its continuous operations, the Directorate of Military Operations strives to root out the remnants of the ousted regime, and establish security and stability in Syria. In light of the firm security grip and the military parades that carry symbolic messages, the Syrian people hope that this will be a step towards a future that is more secure and stable for all Syrians. Rama Akili, TRT Arabic."
