Iran-Linked Telegram Video Reveals First Look At Iraqi PMU-Made Drone

June 16, 2023

On June 14, 2023, a Telegram channel linked to Iran-backed militias published a post with a video revealing the newly manufactured M6, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), produced by the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), an Iraqi state-sponsored umbrella organization comprising multiple factions, including those backed by Iran.

The announcement appears to be part of the PMU's celebration to mark the 9th anniversary of its formation, which took place yesterday.

The Telegram channel published a poster with the text: "After land, we now protect the sky." The post then alerted followers that footage will soon be posted showing, for the first time, a "M6 Hashad [i.e., PMU] plane."

The three-minute clip showed a masked operative in military uniform bearing the PMU insignia testing the UAV using a switch board and computer. The computer displayed a regional map showing Iraq and neighboring countries.

The footage also shows the UAV taking off and dropping missiles on practice targets.

Concluding, the clip showed two operative shaking hands in congratulations for the successful UAV test.

Another post by the channel indicated that "the plane is purely [the product] of Iraqi industry, [created by] reverse-engineering Iranian Muhajir 6 drones."
