March 31, 2015

On March 16, 2015, the Iraqi Ministry of Communication announced that it was cooperating with international communication companies to shut down ISIS-related websites and social media accounts. This move comes as part of the legal framework established by the UN's International Telecommunications Union to combat criminal misuse of information technology.

Iraqi MP Mohammed Al-Masoudi said: "These are positive and important movements... We support and endorse any national effort to prevent terrorists from exploiting digital technologies and virtual space in spreading their sick ideas and brutal acts that are a shame on humanity."
