On June 21, 2023, a user of the Islamic State (ISIS)-operated Rocket.Chat encrypted server published a post listing the benefits and disadvantages of using Telegram when it comes to online security. He claimed that not all chats are encrypted, only the "secret chats," and that for this reason, the Session messaging platform is preferable.
In another post, the user shared a 4-page booklet discussing security precautions for ISIS supporters online. The booklet recommends the use of Proton VPN over other VPNs, saying it is the safest. It nevertheless warned that the service is run by "infidels" who may break their promises of securing user privacy if pressured by authorities. Another user responded by warning that VPNs are not all secure, including Proton VPN.
