Pro-Al-Qaeda News Outlet Releases 'Version 1.2' Of Its App

On March 20, 2020, a pro-Al-Qaeda media outlet announced on Telegram a new update to its Android app. According to the announcement, "version 1.2" adds "a button related to updating the links of scholars and jihadi foundations, expanding the circle of connection with the app administration via Telegram and Gmail, and adding images to news reports under the 'Latest News' button, in addition to fixing some small bugs."

The app's developers describe the update as a "major breakthrough in jihadi media" and shared the app as a .apk file on a Telegram bot to be downloaded and installed.

The group first announced the release of its app on January 15, 2020. The new app sends push notifications with news updates posted by the group. In an announcement made on the same day that the app was released, the group promoted it, stating: "The app is managed by a group of good, righteous brothers, as we consider them. As a news agency we advise the brothers to use it..."
