On July 2, 2019, a pro-Islamic State (ISIS) Telegram channel warned its followers in English that fake Telegram channels were being used to spy on ISIS supporters. The channel cautioned ISIS supporters not to share personal or sensitive information online and advised "administrators of channels and groups to avoid using official names affiliated with the Islamic State" as these mislead their followers regarding their authenticity.
