On May 1, 2017, it was reported that the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades, the armed wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), had hacked an unspecified number of Israeli phones as part of a larger cyber operation in the name of Palestinian prisoners engaging in a mass hunger strike.
The hacks were against sites and accounts of Israeli individuals and government institutions.
The brigade claimed to have previously hacked "multiple websites of the occupation" and to have gathered "important information in an ongoing attack defying the Zionist security and technology system."
