On April 10, 2023, Telegram channels linked to Iran-backed militias in Iraq reported that a U.S. base located in a natural gas field in the Syrian governorate of Deir Al-Zour was hit by multiple drones and rockets.

On March 26, an Iran-backed Syrian militia claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement, vowing more attacks against the U.S. forces.
