In December 2013, a Turkey-based group of hackers, Ayyildiz Tim, hacked the website of the United Nations Country Team in Ethiopia, defacing it with an image which included the black jihadi flag used by Al-Qaeda and a message announcing that the hack was in retaliation for unspecified hacks against Turkey and Islam.
Interestingly, the group, which according to the report claims to be the first ever Turkish cyber army, and recognized by the country's armed forces, uses both imagery associated with jihadi ideology as well as imagery from Turkey's secularist past, including of Kamal Ataturk. as is evident on its Twitter page and on its website.

The message the group left on the UN website's page, which was in English, read: "Whoever has bad ideas about our religion and our country including internet websites we will fight with them, All Turkish origins from all over the world we are together, we don't afraid anyone we will give answers, whoever let cruelty, and countries who make cruelty others wait our visit, Turks has no patience anymore." Several dozen other websites were attacked in a similar manner, including that of Kenya's Ministry of Transport, and the Facebook page of the Kurdish LGBT group Hebun. The group left this message on the Kenyan website: "All the muslims are together. The CYBER-WAR will be appeared all the Countries which not respecting Islam. Ayyildiz promises that they will visit your areas too..." and posted the following image on the Facebook page:
