In a interview with a jihadist monthly magazine, Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan spokesman Qari Muhammad Yousuf said that Allah was protecting the Muslims, and that none of the Americans' tricks or strategy shifts would avail them. He added that the Taliban controls the vast majority of Afghanistan, and that, unlike in Iraq with the Sahwa forces, the Americans would not succeed in recruiting Afghan tribes against the mujahideen.
Asked about the U.S.'s demand that the Taliban renounce Al-Qaeda, Yousuf said that the Taliban's bond with the "immigrant mujahideen" in Afghanistan (i.e., the non-Afghan Muslims who come to fight there)and with the Pakistan Taliban is anchored in their common faith and ideology.
Yousuf also said that the U.S. is the enemy of the entire Islamic nation, and that U.S. President Barack Obama's short speeches in Cairo and Afghanistan could not hide this fact. He called on all Muslims to fulfill their obligation towards their religion and to join the jihad, or, failing that, to support mujahideen as best they can.
