Australian Islamist Wissam 'Abu Ousayd' Haddad Responds To Lawsuit By Jewish Group: They Took Offense To Me Saying 'They Have Their Hands In Everything', But Some Historians Say That's Why Hitler Targeted The Jews In The Holocaust

In a November 2, 2024, episode of the Muslim Unapologetic podcast on YouTube, Australian Islamic scholar Wissam "Abu Ousayd" Haddad responded to legal action taken against him by the Executive Council of Australian Jewry (ECAJ) over antisemitic remarks he made at the Al Madina Dawah Centre in Sydney. In response to the lawsuit, which accused him of calling Jews "vile, evil, and mischievous," Haddad quoted passages from the Bible that describe Jews as "evil." He also addressed another statement included in the lawsuit, in which he claimed that "the Jews have their hand in everything," stating that, according to some historians, this is one of the reasons Hitler and the Nazis targeted Jews during the Holocaust. It should be noted that the YouTube thumbnail used by the Muslim Unapologetic podcast for this episode featured an image of a man mockingly dressed as an ultra-Orthodox Jew, in a manner commonly associated with online antisemitic imagery.

Interviewer: "They said this word 'antisemitic.' They love to use this [word] 'antisemitic.' Anything – if they don't like it – it is antisemitic. But as Muslims, we know that we cannot be racists."

[...]

Wissam Haddad: "If the issue is me saying something against the Jews is a [legal] issue... Because they did say that I called them vile, mischievous, evil, and so forth. So Allah be praised, knowing that I was going to speak about this today, I wanted to bring up [quotes] from the Quran and also biblical texts to prove that... why we hold this belief...

[...]

"Aaron the brother of Moses is speaking to Moses, and he is saying to him: 'Do not be angry, my Lord.' Aaron answered: 'You know how prone these people are to evil.' So even their own prophets are saying about them that they are evil. Even God was angry with them in their own scripture.

[...]

"One of the statements that I made in the sermon is that the Jews had their hands in everything, in banking, in the media, that they control the media, hide, and so on and so forth. And they took offense to this, and they said that this is antisemitic, because I think that even at the time of Hitler and the Nazis they sort of said the same thing about the Jews – although some historians would say that one of the reasons why Hitler targeted the Jews was because of this. This is not saying that we deny the Holocaust, we understand, but the question is why [it happened]."
