British-Palestinian journalist Abdel Bari Atwan said in a December 29, 2019 interview on Mayadeen TV (Lebanon) that America has “opened the gates of Hell” by carrying out the recent airstrike against Iran-backed militias in Iraq. He said that the recent Iraqi militia rocket attack against the American K-1 base in Kirkuk that killed an American civilian contractor is just an example of what the militias in Iraq are capable of, and he warned that America is going to miss the days of ISIS and of the pre-2011 Iraqi resistance. Urging the Iraqi people to support the new Iraqi resistance in order to drive out the Americans, Atwan said that the countdown has begun until President Trump withdraws American troops from Iraq. He also said that the proxy war between the U.S. and Iran has begun, and he added that American bases throughout the Middle East will become targets in this proxy war.
Following are excerpts:
Abdel Bari Atwan: America has really opened the gates of Hell. America knows the Iraqis very well. When the Iraqis say that they will drive out the U.S. bases and everybody in them, they are going to keep their word to the letter. America surrendered and defeated in Iraq, and it was forced to withdraw, broken and humiliated, in 2011, because of the blows dealt to it by the resistance.

In my opinion, we have to take into consideration that the war to expel the U.S. forces from Iraq has begun. All the forces in Al-Tanf, in Ayn Al-Assad, and in the K-1 base near Kirkuk – all the American bases – will be targeted now. The U.S. experienced this yesterday with the attack on the K-1 base in Kirkuk. What happened there? The rockets that hit that base were exceptionally precise. This drove the Americans crazy. By Allah, the Americans are going to miss the days of ISIS and the days of the resistance before 2011. They really opened the gates of Hell. The Iraqi people in its entirety must stand behind this new resistance, in order to drive out the American invaders from Iraq. I believe that the countdown has begun, and that it is not inconceivable that we will very soon see Trump announcing, in his defeat, the withdrawal of all the troops.

I believe that the proxy war has begun. I believe that America has made a mistake, along with Israel, because it was Israeli drones and planes that hit the PMU more than twenty times. I believe that the proxy war has begun. Iran will not remain silent. The American bases – not only in Iraq, but in Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Al-Tanf as well – will all become targets in this proxy war.
