British political analyst Sami Hamdi said in a MAS Staten Island Center event marking the anniversary of October 7, that the reason Israel is hitting Lebanon and provoking Iran into a war is to legitimize Israeli expansionism and ethnic cleansing. He added that Egyptian leader Al-Sisi is not opening the Rafah crossing into Egypt is that Palestinians would leave Gaza, cross into the Sinai Peninsula, and launch rockets from there into Israel like they did from refugee camps in Lebanon, thus providing Israel with a pretext to invade Egypt. Activist Abdullah Aql, the political director of MAS Staten Island and leading activist with Within Our Lifetime, described pro-Palestinian activity in New York since October 7, 2023. The event was streamed live on the MAS Staten Island Center on Facebook on October 6, 2024, however, the question and answer session was redacted.
Abdullah Aql: "Over the last year, at least here in New York City, praise be to Allah, we have seen the streets of New York City were very alive. Protest after protest, activation after activation, direct actions, and so on. But at the same time, we saw the flip side of it, where the Zionist escalations increased more and more. Not only in Gaza, but all across Palestine and all across the lands all around Palestine. From Lebanon to Syria to Iran. And may Allah aid all of our brothers and sisters across wherever they are."

"Sisi... the issue with Rafah border is... He knows that if he opens that border, it is most likely that many Palestinians will cross over into the Sinai Peninsula.

"The thing with these Palestinians is they don't give up on their land, no matter where they are. So just as you had the tents in Lebanon, what came out of those tents? [Imitates rockets launching]. For algorithm purposes we shouldn't say what. So, from these tents in Sinai, what will come out? [Imitates rockets launching] say it with me [imitates rockets launching]. When that happens, Sisi believes that the most likely scenario is the Israelis will cross the border and invade. Now when they invade, here in New York, this City of yours, there will be a lot of lobbying, and in Washington, to say: 'the Israelis are invading tell them to stop.'
"Sisi knows that when that day comes, Washington will not say that Israel is violating Egypt's borders. They will say that there is a terrorist threat that requires an 'international peacekeeping force' and we need to demilitarize this area and put the international peacekeeping force there. This peacekeeping force will be established predominately of Israeli forces.

"The reason Israel is hitting Lebanon and trying to provoke Iran into a war and trying to bomb Yemen and the like is because the Israelis, they're not doing it from a position of power, they're doing it from a position of weakness. They are unable to find a strategic victory that can be legitimized, so they want a legal 'war' that will enable them to achieve that ethnic cleansing, so that Netanyahu can say: 'finally we've pushed these borders and we've managed to make them bigger.'
"And there's a lot of excitement amongst the Biden Administration with regards to this, a lot of leaks coming out. Brett McGurk and these others saying that it's an exciting opportunity, we finally have a reason to expand those borders and the best part about it is we can do it and these Muslims will still vote for us because the other side is so scary and because, you know, there are people of... have you read the Hadith, that it says in their book they are... you know we need to make sure they will come to us and forgive us anyway.
"It's a win-win situation because the other side is a man with an orange tan who... Brett McGurk believes this is the golden opportunity too, in which we can make Israel's borders bigger, we can commit genocide, we can get rid of these Palestinians, and we can win a second term on top of it. Why not continue?"
