Michigan imam Usama Abdulghani said in an October 25, 2024 Friday night lecture at the Hadi Youth Community Center in Dearborn that it is important to appreciate Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei while he is still alive. He said this after acknowledging the "martyrdom" of Hamas leaders Ismail Haniyeh and Yahya Sinwar as well as Hizbullah leaders Hassan Nasrallah and Hashem Safieddine. Abdulghani stated: "It will be a waste and sad, if we only come to appreciate [Khamenei] and take his words as seriously as we should, when he is no longer with us."

Usama Abdulghani: "Allow me to offer my congratulations, as well as my condolences for our last martyrs. Since we last spoke, obviously, we lost Yahya Sinwar, and then of course, we lost Hashem Safieddine.

[...]

"They were able to get Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. None of us could even believe or imagine life without the Sayyed [Nasrallah]. They were able to get the Sayyed. They got Yahya Sinwar, they got Hashem Safieddine.

[...]

"You and I – one big blessing, if Allah grants us success – would be to understand and appreciate the source of religious authority [Khamenei], while he is still alive. Allah blessed us with Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, [and] it will be a waste and sad, if we only came to appreciate him and take his words as seriously as we should, and take his words as seriously as we should, when he is no longer with us."
