Egyptian Presidential Candidate Tawfiq Okasha Threatens MEMRI and the US: "An Eye for an Eye and a Tooth for a Tooth"

Following are excerpts from an address by Egyptian presidential candidate Tawfiq Okasha, which aired on Al-Faraeen TV on November 26, 2011 :

Tawfiq Okasha : Before we go to the news, I'd like to say to the Memory institute – the Middle East Media Research Institute: The student has surpassed his master. I will say it again. I say to the Memory institute… The Middle East… The Middle East Media Research Institute… I say to them… It's an American institute… I say to them: The student has surpassed the master.

Checks his earpiece :

What's that?

But that's what I said – MEMRI. What did you hear? Memory? What can I do, it's my voice…

Alright, I'll say it again in Arabic: The Middle East Media Research Institute… The American institute… Memory… MEMRI.

I say to them: The student has surpassed his masters. There is not a single word of mine that you have not analyzed. But I swear on my father's grave, no matter how much you analyze, you won't know what's going on up here. By God, you won't know what's going on up here.

When I was in training [in the US], you used to give us lectures in the center for Middle East strategic studies…

Even when I was training there, you didn't know what was going on in my mind. So don't think too hard, because every day, I will come up with things you don't expect. Who do you think I am – Hosni Mubarak? No, my friend, I am not.

[…]

The Jews are my friends. You are my friends. This means an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. I am in nobody's pocket, and I don't take money from anyone. Is that clear? I'll say it again. I say to the Middle East Media research Institute, the American institute for research of the Middle East media: An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. Anyone who interferes in Egypt's internal affairs – we will intervene in its internal affairs.

Respect is the basis for mutual relations. I say to the Americans, to the White House, to the US State Department, and to the US embassy in Cairo: Respect is the basis for mutual relations. An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. If you toy with Egypt's internal affairs, we will toy with the internal affairs of the USA. Many of us Muslims and Arabs hold US citizenship. We will do it in America. I am crystal clear. You are not beyond our reach.
