Former Iraqi MP Misha'an Al-Juburi said in an August 22, 2019 interview on Alsharqiya News TV (Iraq) that the government's harshness in Iraq's Sunni provinces is worse than the American occupation was. He gave the example of a family from which 40 members were arrested, and he said: "Today, the people in the Sunni areas are longing [for the return] of the Americans [and] are willing to accept any occupation and any invader that will rid them of this injustice… [They] will seek help [in] confederalism, in federalism, from America, from Israel, [and even] from Satan himself."

Misha'an Al-Juburi: What was going on before 2014 in the Sunni governorates, and particularly in Nineveh, was not the doing of Saddam Hussein. Saddam Hussein had never used collective punishments.

Since 2007, 2008, 2009, the government's organs have been harsher than the occupation. And after the occupation left at the end of 2011… Let me say it loud and clear. Today, the people in the Sunni areas are longing [for the return] of the Americans. They wish for their return and they are willing to accept any occupation and any invader that will rid them of this injustice.

The [government] arrested 40 members of one family and 14 of another. Do they really think that the people will remain silent over this? The people will seek help not only in confederalism, in federalism, from America, and from Israel. They will seek help from Satan himself to get rid of this injustice.
