Former Iranian diplomat Amir Mousavi said in a March 18, 2023 show on Mayadeen TV (Lebanon) that Iran is already a superpower, and that this is demonstrated by the fact that it has been engaged in negotiations with six nuclear countries and that it is Iran's foreign minister who would decide when the American delegation could enter the meeting hall during the negotiations. He added that this is a result of Iran's steadfastness, its strategic alliances, and its capabilities that "deter global arrogance [i.e. the U.S.].
"Amir Mousavi: "With regard to the notion that Iran may become a superpower, following its agreement [with Saudi Arabia]...
"Naturally, this agreement may increase the power of both countries, and the power of the Arab and Islamic countries [in general], but Iran undoubtedly crossed the threshold of being a superpower when it began negotiating with six nuclear countries
"Five nuclear countries that possess 16,000 nuclear weapons were sitting in front of the foreign minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, trying to persuade him to accept some of their ideas and then Iran would indicate whether the delegate of the number one superpower on the planet [the U.S.] may or may not enter the meeting hall. This has been going on for over 13 years.
"So, Iran has crossed the point of becoming a superpower. I am not saying this to brag or to boast. I am just stating the facts that have been imposed by the steadfastness of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Iranian people, and because of the strategic alliances of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and its local capabilities that deter global arrogance [the U.S.]."
