Following are excerpts from an interview with former Israeli Knesset member Azmi Bishara, which aired on Al-Arabiya TV on June 16, 2011:
Azmi Bishara: [The Americans] have the audacity to tell us to learn [democracy] from Poland. Brother, this is something I don't understand. These people inherited a democracy, but who says they are democratic? Who says that Clinton and Obama can give us a lesson in democracy? I can read Thomas Jefferson and learn about democracy, because he established democracy in his country. But did Obama establish a democracy?!
He's nothing but an opportunist politician, who, by various means, came to power in a democratic country. He cannot take any credit for establishing it. Clinton, her husband, and all the rest are not democratic people. Their ruling system is. We are democratic people, who want to build democracies. We are genuine democratic people. We won't take orders from opportunist politicians, who came to power through various means, and tell us to learn from Poland. Why? Because the US has managed to take over Eastern Europe.
