During his Friday sermon in the city of Qom, broadcast by Channel 2 of Iranian TV, the preacher Ayatollah Javadi-Amoli called on Americans not to vote for Bush in the coming elections. Following are excerpts from his sermon, broadcast on June 19, 2004:
Ayatollah Javadi-Amoli: Regarding what is happening in the IAEA Board of Governors, notice that the UN is in the hands of America. The Security Council is in the hands of America. The IAEA Board of Governors is in the hands of America. They pressure Iran as much as they themselves are pressured. Thanks to God's grace, our leaders and noble people are not used to living under oppression and degradation.

Ayatollah Javadi-Amoli: We advise the people of America, not to continue to tolerate this oppressing, ignorant, pillaging, criminal, and discriminating administration. In the future, do not vote for Bush and his ilk. We also advise the distinguished people of Europe, not to befoul themselves by tolerating the American pressure because eventually, they will fall into this trap and collapse like it.
Moreover, we recommend to the chairman of the Board of Governors, not to tolerate the European and American pressure. After all, you claim that you support democracy, freedom, intelligence, and wisdom. You see with your own eyes that Iran did not base itself on creating weapons of mass destruction, atomic weapons. It did not and does not base itself on it. But it has the right to obtain technology in order to use (nuclear power) for peaceful purposes and to derive scientific benefit.
Don't even think that Iran will relinquish scientific progress. Give up this idea.
