In an interview posted on Didarnews on Telegram on October 21, 2024, Iranian Chief of Police Ahmad-Reza Radan outlined his plan to deport two million illegal immigrants from Iran by the end of the year. He stated that foreign nationals who have entered Iran legally will be protected by the police. Radan, who is of Afghan origin, also serves as the chief commander of the Law Enforcement Command of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Ahmad-Reza Radan: "One of the issues and concerns some [Majles] members have has been the illegal foreign nationals. Based on promises we made and the discussions that followed, certainly, until the end of the year, two million illegal aliens who have entered the country by illegal routes, have settled here illegally, and have been working here illegally, will be rounded up, processed, and deported. Foreigners who have entered, settled, and work here legally are considered our guests, and fall under the protection, security, and support of our police force."
