Iranian political analyst Saleh Al-Qazwini said on a January 27, 2024 show on Palestine Today TV (Palestinian Islamic Jihad) that the Houthis in Yemen are being merciful towards the U.S. and U.K. by only targeting their ships and not their military bases in the region. He said that this policy might change in the future, because "the Yemenis have hinted that they have many cards up their sleeves, like striking American interests and American forces, in order to stop the aggression against Gaza."
Saleh Al-Qazwini: "If Yemeni military capabilities enable [the Houthis] to target American ships on the high seas and inflict direct and precise hits on them, then aren't they capable of targeting American military bases in Bahrain or in other countries in the region?
"Of course they are capable and prepared to do that, if the American and British aggression does not cease targeting Yemeni territory.
"But [the Houthis] are showing mercy towards the U.S. and Britain by refraining from doing that. They made do with targeting those ships, and did not target their military bases, but there is no guarantee that the Yemenis will not go further than that. It is not inconceivable at all that they would go for those options. The Yemenis have hinted that they have many cards in their sleeves, like striking American interests and American forces, in order to stop the aggression against Gaza."
