Iranian expert on the Middle East Dr. Masoud Asadollahi said in a January 22, 2023 show on Al-Etejah TV (Iraq) warned that if Britain and the E.U. designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization, Iran will "respond in kind." He said that Iran could in turn designate the British army as a "terrorist army," that the world's fuel reserves are close to Iran, and that international supporters of Iran could retaliate, similarly to the young man who recently stabbed Salman Rushdie. Asadollahi warned against playing with fire, saying that the fire might spread all over the region and the world.
Dr. Masoud Asadollahi: "Iran has declared that if any country — or the European Union — designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization, Iran will respond in kind. In other words, we in the Persian Gulf, are now facing many European and American frigates. It would be enough for Iran to designate the British army as a terrorist army.
"That would mean that we would treat the British army like we treated ISIS.

"When discussing regional issues, we used to say that security in the Persian Gulf is collective security. Either everyone has security, or no one has. This is the linchpin of Iranian foreign policy. Iran does not threaten any neighboring country, but neither will it remain silent in the face of any threat. They should keep in mind that no one can play with fire in our region, because the fire will spread, and it will reach everyone — and not only here, but all over the world.
"Iran has proven that it has great military power, as well as cultural power. It is very popular among... They know this very well. Iran doesn't even have to ask its supporters among the nations to do anything. They know that there are many young people among the nations like the young man who stabbed Salman Rushdie after all those years. So Iran cannot be attacked without there being consequences in the West, in the U.S., anywhere in the world."
